In psychotherapy, psychotherapists employ scientifically validated therapeutic procedures to help people develop healthier, more effective habits. There are several approaches to psychotherapy — including cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, psychoanalytic, dialectical-behavioral, gestalt, supportive, humanistic, Mind Body and mindfulness therapies, and other types of talk therapy —that help individuals work through their personal problems.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and and his or her psychotherapist. Grounded in dialogue, it provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who’s objective, neutral and nonjudgmental. You and your therapist will work together to identify and change the thought and behavior patterns that are keeping you from feeling and being your best.

Throughout the process of psychotherapy,  you may not have only resolved the issue that brought you to treatment, but you will have most likely learned new skills so as to better cope with and identify challenges which may arise in the future.

Some people seek psychotherapy because they have felt depressed, anxious or agitated for a long period of time. Others may want help for a chronic illness that is interfering with their emotional or physical well-being. Still others may have short-term issues they need help navigating.
